Bio

Hilete is a Partner at Green and Spiegel LLP and the Practice Director of the firm’s Canadian permanent residence practice group. With over 14 years of experience practicing exclusively in the area of Canadian immigration and citizenship law, Hilete has repeatedly been recognized as a “Leading Lawyer To Watch” in the Canadian Legal Lexpert Directory, which profiles leading practitioners across Canada and is a prestigious “acknowledgment of excellence by a practitioner’s own peers and colleagues”.

Hilete has extensive experience representing both corporate and individual clients in all areas of Canadian immigration law, and is regularly featured as a panelist on Green and Spiegel’s Inside Immigration webinar series to share her expert advice and the latest trends in immigration law. She is also frequently invited to present to businesses, HR and legal professionals, international students at universities and colleges across Ontario, religious organizations, and immigrant settlement organizations on various immigration topics, including the transition from temporary to permanent residence status.

Hilete’s areas of expertise include economic immigration via the Express Entry system (Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Class), provincial nominee streams, and self-employed/entrepreneur streams; family reunification; caregiver streams; and humanitarian and compassionate applications. She also advises businesses on how to obtain the necessary work authorizations to allow employees to work in Canada on a temporary basis, and on best practices to ensure compliance with current immigration laws and regulations including intra-company transfers, USMCA and treaty work permits, spousal work permits, temporary authorization for dependent children, and student visas.

Hilete also has extensive experience with admissibility and enforcement matters, appeals, and Federal Court litigation, and she has been counsel in several notable reported decisions by the Immigration and Refugee Board and the Federal Court.

Hilete’s extremely high success rate is due to her careful analysis at the beginning of every case she takes on, her client-centered approach, and her ongoing involvement and analysis throughout each case until a positive result is achieved.
