Hotel Quarantine - What Travellers to Canada Need to Know

As of February 21, 2021, at 11:59 pm ET, air travellers, unless exempted, will be required to reserve a 3 night stay at a government-authorized hotel prior to their departure to Canada. Individuals will still require a negative COVID-19 molecular test result taken in the last 72 hours to board their flight. A test will be taken upon arrival to Canada and nearing the end of the 14-day quarantine period. To book your 3-night stay, call 1-800-294-8253. You will be able to choose from the listed hotel locations below:

Alberta

  • Acclaim Hotel
  • Marriot Calgary Airport

British Columbia

  • Westin Wall Centre Vancouver Airport

Ontario

  • Alt Hotel Pearson Airport
  • Four Points by Sheraton and Element Toronto Airport
  • Holiday Inn Toronto International Airport
  • Sheraton Gateway Hotel in Toronto International Airport

Quebec

  • Aloft Montreal Airport
  • Crowne Plaza Montreal Airport
  • Holiday Inn Express and Suites Montreal Airport
  • Montreal Airport Marriott In-Terminal

Each hotel will have a different rate commensurate with your booked room. You will need to provide the following details when booking:

  • traveller name(s);
  • date(s) of birth;
  • arrival city and date;
  • payment information;
  • special requests and accessibility concerns; and
  • pet information.

Travellers will receive an email confirmation after booking which is required to show prior to entry into Canada. Travellers will only be able to leave their hotel quarantine upon the receipt of a negative COVID-19 test. The traveller must then go to their final destination to quarantine for the remaining period. If, for example, they receive a negative test result on day 3 of quarantine, travellers must continue their quarantine for 11 more days at home. If the traveller tests positive, they may be moved to a federal quarantine facility.

Any traveller in contravention of the Quarantine Act may face fines of up to $3,000 for each day of non-compliance or offence committed. Leaving a quarantine facility without authorization or failing to comply with an order prohibiting or subjecting to any condition the entry into Canada are both subject to a $3,000 fine.

It is critical to stay up to date and review all information prior to your travel date as requirements and restrictions are subject to change.
