USCIS Replaces Sticker that Extends Green Card Validity

USCIS recently announced that, starting this month, it will no longer issue stickers extending the validity of expired permanent resident cards to lawful permanent residents (“LPRs”). The agency has instead revised the Form I-90 receipt notice, which will be used with the expired card to demonstrate status for an additional twelve months from expiration. Learn more in this blog.

Permanent Residents Struggle to Prove That They are Authorized to Work in the United States

Delays in processing documents has created a crisis for some Lawful Permanent Residents since the ability to work is tied to demonstrating work authorization and identity. For Permanent Residents, this usually means presenting a Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card (“Green Card”) or a temporary stamp in their passport which shows that they are waiting for a Green Card to be delivered that they are approved to receive. For those who can’t get the stamp and haven’t received the card, they may not be able to work. Fortunately, there are some mechanisms in place to spur the agency which oversees this process to deliver the necessary documentation.

USCIS Revises Guidelines for I-751 Interviews

In a reversal of policy initially formed under the administrations’ “extreme vetting”, USCIS officers now have the discretion to waive interviews for I-751 petitioners seeking to remove conditions of their permanent residency provided that they have presented sufficient documentary evidence and meet other requirements.
