We are very excited to announce that Jonathan Grode, U.S. Practice Director has been named liaison to the American Bar Association Commission on Immigration for 2016-2017 period on behalf of the ABA Labor and Employment Law Section. The Commission directs the ABA’s efforts to ensure fair treatment and full due process rights for immigrants and refugees within the United States. Since 1992, immigration has been a legislative and programmatic priority of the ABA. Specifically, the Commission’s work involves:
1) Advocating for statutory and administrative reform;
2) Providing continuing legal education and information to the legal community and the public; and
3) Managing three offsite border pro bono programs.
As part of its advocacy efforts, the Commission is currently working on updating two previously published reports, the 2010 “Reforming the Immigration System,” which provides a comprehensive review of the immigration system for determining whether a noncitizen should be allowed to remain in the United States or should be removed; and the 2004 “Standards for the Custody, Placement and Care; Legal Representation; and Adjudication of Unaccompanied Alien Children in the United States.”
For more information about the Commission, please visit the website at www.americanbar.org/immigration or contact Jonathan directly.
