USCIS announced that current DACA recipients may now file online for renewal of their Form I-821D, Consideration of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. The change comes as USCIS begins plans to streamline various filings and increase access by making more forms available for online filing. USCIS Director, Ur Jaddou said of the change, “[t]he option to file DACA renewal requests online is part of USCIS’ ongoing move to minimize reliance on paper records and further transition to an electronic environment.”

All DACA applicants who wish to file their renewal online will need to first create an online account with USCIS. This will allow applicants to have direct access to USCIS online services to file online forms, pay related fees, and track the status of the petition throughout the adjudication process. This new online account will also allow users to communicate with the agency securely and effectively in one place. The online filing option will only be available to those who have already requested and been granted DACA status.

Director Jaddou has made clear that increasing efficiency and ease of access to filing is a top priority for the agency. In announcing this expansion in filing options, the Director stated that the “expansion of online filing is a priority for USCIS as we make our operations more efficient and effective for the agency and out stakeholders, applicants, petitioners, and requestors.” With the addition of Form 821D to the online filing catalog, the agency now has a total of thirteen different forms available online.
