Covid-19_ Changes to Canada’s Border Measures

Given the recent data that indicates that the latest wave of COVID-19 has passed its peak in Canada, the Government of Canada is easing border measures as of February 28, 2022. This includes returning to measures that were in place before the emergence of the Omicron variant. Travellers arriving in Canada from any country, who qualify as fully vaccinated, will be randomly selected for arrival testing. Travellers selected will no longer be required to quarantine while awaiting their test result.

Children under 12 years old, travelling with fully vaccinated adults, will continue to be exempt from quarantine. This includes the removal of an isolation period, allowing children to no longer wait 14 days before attending school, camp or daycare.

Travellers will now have the option of using a COVID-19 rapid antigen test result or a molecular test (PCR, NAT, NAATs, RT-LAMP) result to meet pre-entry requirements. This does not include a rapid antigen test performed at home. The test must be authorized by the country in which it was purchased and must be administered by a laboratory, healthcare entity or telehealth service.

The Government of Canada will no longer recommend that Canadians avoid travel for non-essential purposes. All travellers will be required to continue using the ArriveCAN app and the ban on international flights to all remaining airports that normally receive international flights will be lifted.

Unvaccinated travellers will continue to be required to test on arrival, on Day 8 and quarantine for 14 days. Unvaccinated foreign nationals will not be permitted to enter Canada unless they meet one of the few exemptions. Contact us to determine whether you meet one of the exemptions to enter Canada.
