June 28, 2016 – Prime Minister Trudeau announced today that effective December 1, 2016, Mexicans will no longer need a visa to visit Canada.  After the visa requirement is lifted, it looks like Mexicans wanting to work or study in Canada will still need to apply for their work and study permits at a Canadian Embassy or Canadian Consulate.  Between now and December 1, 2016, Canadian officials will work with their Mexican counterparts on final details to ensure a successful transition in lifting the visa requirement.   Mexican citizens will also need to apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization to fly to or transit though Canada on or after December 1, 2016.
